NFL Week 4 Recap: Jaguars stun Colts, and Brown shock Bengals

New York Jets @ Buffalo Bills

“LT Comes Alive”

LaDainian Tomlinson came out running an didn’t stop, piling up 133 rushing yards on 19 carries, and 2 touchdowns. This was LT’s 47th 100 yard game. Mark Sanchez who has been nothing short of stellar this season did not throw an interception for the 4th week straight. Sanchez completed 14 of 24 for 161 yards, and 2 touchdowns. The only real positive that came out of the Bills game for the Bills was Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick was 12 of 27 for 128 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 74 rushing yards. Jets led by LT took this game easy by a score of 38-14

Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns

“Peyton Hills carries Browns to first win of the season”

Peyton Hillis has taken the league by surprise with his recent rushing performances. The recent fullback converted running back carried the Browns to not only a shocking win but there first of the season. Hillis rushed for 102 yards on 27 carries, and 1 touchdown. This was enough to hold off the Carson Palmer to Terrell Owens rampage. Carson Palmer completed 25 of 36 for 371 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Owens hauled in 10 receptions for 222 yards, and 1 touchdown. When looking at those stats it is hard to say how the Bengals lost but they did by a score of 23-20.

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers

“Flacco rallies the troops for a game winning touchdown”

Joe Flacco led his troops down for a game winning touchdown with 36 seconds left. He also did it against one of the toughest defenses in the league. Flacco completed 24 of 37 for 256 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. T.J Houshmanzadeh was the recipient of the 18 yard game winning touchdown. Haloti Ngata was a run stuffer with 8 solo tackles, 3 assisted, and a sack. Ray Lewis also beefed up the defense with 7 tackles, 2 assisted tackles, and 1 interception. The Steelers missed not having Big Ben available for this game as Charlie Batch was rather ineffective. Rashard Mendenhall provided all the offense as he rushed for  79 yards on 25 carries, and 2 touchdowns. The defense was solid but faltered late and lost to the Ravens by a score of 17-14.

Denver Broncos @ Tennessee Titans

“Orton leads the Broncos to a comeback win”

Kyle Orton put together yet another great performance to lead the Broncos over the Titans. Orton completed 35 of 50 for 341 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Orton now has passed for 1,419 yards on the year. Brandon Llyod who has gone from forgotten to beast hauled in 11 receptions for 115 yards. Eddie Royal also put in a great game for 8 receptions for 113 yards, and 1 touchdown. As for the Titans there really isn’t much to point out as far as on offense. Chris Johnson only rushed for 53 yards which puts another sting to another 2,000 yard conquest. Vince Young completed 17 of 28 for 173 yards, and 1 touchdown. The Titans got some help from special teams as Marc Mariani who averaged 31 yards on 6 kick returns which included a 98 yard touchdown return. The Broncos scored 10 unanswered to win 26-20.

Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers

“Packers hold off late Lions late roar”

The Packers were able to build an early lead that proved to be helpful as they would win by only 2 points. Jennings, Driver, and Jermichael Finley combined for 150 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Charles Woodson and A.J. Hawk supplied the defense to hold the Lions. Woodson had 11 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 1 interceptions, and a 48 yard interception touchdown return. A.J Hawk had 9 solo tackles, 3 assisted tackles, and 1 interception. The Lions were feisty until the end. Calvin Johnson hauled in 6 receptions for 86 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Jason Hanson was very effective hitting 4 of 5 field goals including a 52 yarder. Hanson helped the Lions score 12 unanswered but it wasn’t enough as the Lions lost by a score of 28-26.

San Francisco 49ers @ Atlanta Falcons

“Matt Bryant hits another game winning field goal”

When you thought the 49ers had their first win of the season you were wrong. The Falcons scored 16 unanswered points including the game winning field for a second straight week. Roddy White was the star on offense hauling in 7 receptions for 104 yards. Roddy White also saved the game when he forced a fumble from Nate Clements who had just intercepted Matt Ryan. On defense Curtis Lofton locked it down as he had 8 tackles, 1 solo tackle, 1 sack, and 1 interception. Matt Bryant was the star of the game going 3 for 3 on field goals including the 43 yard game winner. As for the 49ers who yet again caught a tough break was powered by Taylor Mays who had 9 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, and 1 touchdown. The 49ers go a shocking 0-4 losing by a score of 16-14.

Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints

“The old man Carney captures victory for Saints”

When you thought he was out and done, well he wasn’t. The old man John Carney has come back and with an strong performance. Carney was 3 for 3 including the proved to be game winning 25 yard field goal. Drew Brees looked rather sharp completing 33 of 48 for 275 yards, and 1 touchdown. The Panthers nearly came close to upsetting the Saints but just couldn’t pull the trigger. Clausen completing 11 of 21 for 146 yards, and 1 touchdown. DeAngelo Williams also supplied the offense rushing for 86 yards on 13 carries, and 1 touchdown. The Saints held off the Panthers by a score of 16-14.

Seattle Seahawks @ St. Louis Rams

“Bradford leads Rams to second consecutive win”

Sam Bradford is developing quickly into a star as he now has lead the Rams to an improbable 2-2 record. Bradford was 23 of 41 for 289 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Steven Jackson despite an injury gained 70 yards. As for the Seahawks there was nothing too much to see. The offense struggled and so did the offense. Earl Thomas picked off Bradford for his 3rd interception of his rookie campaign. The Seahawks D despite giving up 20 points tallied 4 sacks, and 1 interception. The Rams won easy by a score of 20-3.

Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars

“Scobee Dooby Doo comes up clutch”

The Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off one the crazy stunners of the season thus far. Josh Scobee made it come true as he became the hero. Even though it was his only attempt Scobee made the most of it hitting an expiring 59 yard game winning field goal. He wasn’t the only one who came up big. Garrard completed 17 of 22 for 163 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 105 yards on 26 carries, and 1 touchdown. As for the Colts besides poor defense the offense once again came out scoring. Peyton Manning completed 33 of 46 for 352 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Addai also rushed for 2 touchdowns. The star of the colts was Reggie Wayne who hauled in 15 receptions for 196 yards. Another stellar performance by a receiver in a losing effort. Jaguars stun the Colts by a score of 31-28.

Houston Texans @ Oakland Raiders

“Foster despite benching carries Texans to a 3-1 start”

No Andre Johnson no problem, at least for this game that is. The story here is Arian Foster who was benched the first half came out in the second half and put up numbers. Foster rushed for 131 yards for 16 attempts, and 1 touchdown. Matt Schaub put up a strong performance completing 16 of 29 for 192 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Troy Nolan helped the defense by intercepting Gradkowski 2 times. The Raiders put up numbers on offense it’s just the defense that couldn’t do much. Gradkowski completed 24 of 39 for 278 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. His main target was Zach Miller who had a nice game. Miller hauled in 11 receptions for 122 yards, and 1 touchdown. The Texans took this by a score of 31-24.

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles

“McNabb gets revenge on the Eagles”

In McNabb’s return to Philadelphia he received cheers. Those cheers later into tears as not only did Vick get injured but the Eagles lost to the Redskins. McNabb didn’t have a strong game but made enough plays completing 8 of 19 for 125 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception, and 39 rushing yards. Torain filled in for Portis who left the game with an injury. Torian rushed for 70 yards, and 1 touchdown. Despite Vick’s absence the Eagles put a hard fought game with the ending almost being a thriller. The Eagles were led by Lesean McCoy who rushed for 64 yards as well as hauled in 12 receptions for 110 yards, and 1 touchdown. Nate Allen picked off McNabb to bring his total to 3 interceptions in his rookie campaign. McNabb got revenge by a score of 17-12.

Arizona Cardinals @ San Diego Chargers

“Rivers and Co dismantle the Cardinals”

Phillip Rivers and Co showed up as they put together 41 points on offense. Rivers put on another great performance completing 15 of 20 for 241 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Antonio Gates was his main recipient hauling in 7 receptions for 144 yards, and 2 touchdowns. The running game was solid as the converted fullback to running back rushed for 100 yards, and 1 touchdown. Matthews added 55 yards, and 1 touchdown to the ground attack. The defense was too much tallying 9 sacks, 2 interceptions, and forced 1 fumble. As for the Cardinals there isn’t much to say if anything at all. The Max Hall era begins is about all. The Chargers destroy the Cardinals by a score of 41-10.

Chicago Bears @ New York Giants

“Giants defense swarm and take out Cutler”

The Giants put together one of there better performances of the season. On offense the ground game was scary good. Bradshaw rushed for 129 yards on 23 carries, and 1 touchdown. Jacobs also played well rushing for 62 yards on 6 carries, and 1 touchdown. Nicks put in a good performance hauling in 8 receptions for 110 yards. The defense was the “Truth” tallying 10 sacks, 2 interceptions, and forced 3 fumbles. The Bears who were sacked 10 times had absolutely no offense and was led by there defense for the most part. As the defense was out there for too long they tired and lost. Nothing to point out on this terrible performance by the Bears. The Giants won by a score of 17-3.

New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins

“Patrick Chung leads special teams to a landslide victory over Fins”

With the offense not scoring the Patriots special teams stepped up big time. Patrick Chung had a day for the ages. Chung blocked a field goal, blocked a punt, and had a 51 yard interception touchdown. It just doesn’t get crazier then that. Also on special team Brandon Tate led the second half off with a 103 yard kick return touchdown. After that is was all Patriots. Brady completed 19 of 24 for 153 yards, and 1 touchdown in a rather quiet performance. BenJarvus Green-Ellis rushed for 76 yards, and 1 touchdown. As for the Dolphins only one man came to play in which was Davone Bess who hauled in 9 receptions for 96 yards, and 1 touchdown. Besides that there is nothing to talk about the Dolphins besides the negatives. The Patriots took this one easy by a score of 41-14.
