MLB: Alberto Callaspo traded to the Angels, News, and Rumors
The Los Angeles Angels looking to boost there offense acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Kansas City Royals for pitchers Sean O’Sullivan and Will Smith. Alberto Callaspo is coming to the Angels batting .275, has 8 homers, and 43 RBI’s. Callaspo also brings versatility in thats he plays third base, second base, has played Shortstop before, and probably could play first base. Sean O’Sullivan will report to the Royals while Will Smith will Report to Class-A Wilmington. Sean O’Sullivan was regarded as one of the Angels top pitching prospects. This year he is 1-0, posted a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings of work.
OF Corey Hart is being targeted by the Rays, Giants, Padres, and several other teams. The Brewers want from the Rays P Wade Davis and other prospects. The Brewers want either P Jonathan Sanchez or P Madison Bumgarner. Not sure what the Brewers want from the Padres.
The Chicago White Sox are targeting first baseman Prince Fielder, but nothing is close yet.
The Florida Marlins designate P Nate Robertson for assignment
P Pedro Martinez said that he won’t pitch in 2010 but isn’t retiring and plans on being back in 2011.
New York Mets put OF Jeff Francoeur on the trade block
The Houston Astros claim second baseman Anderson Hernandez, and pitcher Nelson Figueroa off waivers.
P Chad Cordero who recently refused to go the Seattle Mariners AAA team and was released, signed with the New York Mets.
Philadelphia Phillies P Jamie Moyer is out indefinitely with an elbow injury. Moyer was placed on the 15 day disabled list, and Kyle Kendrick will be called up to pitch on Saturday. J.A. Happ will be called up for Kendrick most likely afterwards.
OF Jason Werth is being heavily targeted by the Tampa Bay Rays but nothing yet. The Red Sox, Giants, and Padres are also interested in Werth.
Houston Astros P Roy Oswalt is being targeted by the St. Louis Cardinals, and Philadelphia Phillies with the Cardinals being the front runner. The Astros like the Cardinals pitching prospect Shelby Miller
The Boston Red Sox acquire Jack Hannahan from the Seattle Mariners for either a player to be named later or money.
The Baltimore Orioles release outfielder Joey Gathright.
OF Timo Perez signed with the Philadelphia Phillies to a minor league deal, Perez hasn’t been in the MLB since the 2007 season.
OF Cody Ross is on the radar of several teams such as the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Phillies, and Braves.
P Jason Isringhausen signed with the Cincinnati Reds to a minor league deal
The Arizona Diamondbacks P Dan Haren are being pursued by the Yankees, Phillies, Tigers, Cardinals and Twins. The Diamondbacks want good young pitching prospects in return, which is why no teams are close to a deal yet.
The Chicago Cubs aren’t willing to pick up Ted Lilly’s salary if he’s traded. That could stall any trades although the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, and Tigers remain interested.
Oakland Athletics P Ben Sheets is being targeted by the Philadelphia Phillies. The Oakland Athletics will have to absorb his contract if they trade him.
The San Diego Padres are looking to trade for Miguel Tejada to fill in for David Eckstein and then when he’s back play some outfield.
