UFC 153: Silva vs Bonnar Results

Main Card:

Anderson Silva def. Stephan Bonnar by TKO (strikes)  Round 1 (4:40)

Breakdown: Bonnar put in a good first, and made it interesting. But Silva connected late in the first with a perfectly timed knee to the solar plexus that crumbled Bonnar, and followed with punches until the ref stopped it.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira def. Dave Herman by submission (armbar) Round 2 (4:31)

Breakdown: Big Nog got the better of Herman in the striking department and while Herman survived submission attempts in the first, in the second Big Nog was able to finally able to put away Herman by armbar.

Glover Teixeira def. Fabio Maldonado by TKO (doctor’s stoppage) Round 2 (5:00)

Breakdown: Glover proved to be way too much whether it was on the feet or on the ground, but Fabio took the punishment the entire fight, and had the heart of a lion. At one point Fabio actually rocked Teixeira, but his face was brutalized by the end of the second and was visually wobbly. Fabio wanted to continue, but the doctor said no, and the ref waved it off.

Jon Fitch def. Erick Silva by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Breakdown: As a Fitch fan, I was so pleased to see him put on a display. The fight was exciting, and both fighters were close to near finishes. Fitch was able to use his wrestling, submission defense, and solid top control to end the hype of Erick Silva for now. Silva no doubt has a bright future, but this jump was way to much, and even being the favorite in this fight just proves the bizarreness.

Phil Davis def. Wagner Prado by submission (anaconda choke) Round 2 (4:29)

Breakdown: Phil Davis executed his gameplan to a tee, as Prado was no match for his wrestling and heavy top game. It was only a matter of time until Davis was able to wear out Prado and submit him via a beautiful anaconda choke.

Demian Maia def. Rick Story by submission (rear-naked choke) Round 1 (2:30)

Breakdown: Demian Maia easily ragdolled Rick Story, and once you saw that, you knew Maia jui-jitsu would finish this fight. Maia is now 2-0 in the welterweight division, and has beaten two top guys.
