NHL: Blackhawks sign Turco which means Niemi’s time in Chicago is over
After the Blackhawks learned that AnttiNiemi was set earn 2.75 million via the arbitration ruling. The Blackhawks sought way to fit Niemi under there already tight cap space. They couldn’t find a way and with Marty Turco waiting patiently, they decided to part ways with Niemi and welcome Turco. Turco is signing with the Blackhawks for 1 year and around 1.5 million. Turco was drafted by the Dallas Stars in 1994, was called up in 2000, and has been a dominant goalie since. His tenure of 9 seasons on the Stars is over as he will join the defending Stanley Cup Champions. A team that looks different with all the trades they have made to shed cap. Turco in 509 games is 262-154-26 with a 2.31 goals against average, .911 save percentage, and 40 shutouts.
