NFL: Suspensions, Retirements, and Rumors

Miami Dolphins DT Jason Ferguson is calling it quits and retiring after 13 seasons in the NFL. Ferguson has been on the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, and finished up with the Miami Dolphins. Ferguson career totals were 498 tackles, and 21.5 sacks.

Green Bay Packers DT Johnny Jolly is suspended indefinitely. He will miss the whole 2010 season and will be allowed reinstatement after the Super Bowl. Jolly was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He will not be payed until he is reinstated. Jolly is facing drug charges from his 2008 arrest outside a club for possession of at least 200 grams of codeine. If convicted he faces up to 20 years in prison.

BYU RB Harvey Unga was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 7th round of the supplemental draft.

Seattle Seahawks LB Leroy Hill is suspended for one game, without pay for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Hill was arrested in 2009 for marijuana possession.

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte is not guaranteed to be the starter this year

Indianapolis Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez who missed the whole 2009-2010 season is ready and says his speed is back.

The Detroit Lions are possibly releasing RB Maurice Morris. With Kevin Smith almost fully recovered and the drafting of Jahvid Best put Maurice Morris looking on the outside.

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline might be in trouble he abandoned his car after crashing into a parked car.

Oakland Raiders RB Micheal Bush ready to take on a bigger role, with more carries. It is uncertain if Darren McFadden will get more of the workload but it is certain Bush will be getting 10 plus carries.

Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Farve’s ankle is getting better each day with hopes of returning to 100% , which the Vikings gotta be happy with. It’s only a matter of time when he will decide to come back.

Carolina Panthers MLB Jon Beason changes his mind not wanting Free Agent WR Terrell Owens on the team. He now believes he would be great alongside WR Steve Smith.

Carolina Panthers QB Hunter Cantwell has been working with the 2nd team which makes him Matt Moore’s backup. Jimmy Clausen slips to the 3rd Quarterback and Tony Pike the number 4 Quarterback. Pike or Cantwell seem to be battling for a roster spot. With Cantwell working with the 2nd team, Pike could be out of a job.

Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson and Titans seem to be at a stalemate. He is hoping the Titans give him up to 30 million guaranteed and is hoping by camp to have something done.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Matt Jones will have to compete against Jerome Simpson, Dezmon Briscoe and Quan Cosby for the final two spots

Former Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell has no intentions of playing for the UFL but no job in the NFL could turn that around

Former Oakland Raiders RB Justin Fargas has officially signed with the UFL with the Omaha Nighthawks. They also have Ahman Green, Charles Grant, Andrew Walter, Fred Smoot, Patrick Ramsey, Chike Okeafor, Robert Ferguson, Ronald Curry, Chris Brown, Shawn Andrews, Craphonso Thorpe, Wendell Bryant, and Devard Darling. All ex-NFL players.

The St. Louis Rams are still in contract talks with the overall number 1 draft pick in the 2010 draft Sam Bradford. Bradford is ecpected to get 45-50 million guaranteed.

San Francisco 49ers failed to reach a long term deal with DT Aubrayo Franklin and will have to try again next season after his 1 year deal is up.

New England Patriots WR Randy Moss has hired power agent Joel Segal.

Seattle Seahawks RB Justin Forsett is looking good and is already being slated as possible starter.
