NBA News: Suns acquire Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress

The Suns acquireHedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress in separate deals. The deal in where they acquire Hedo Turkoglu they will send guard Leandro Barbosa and forward/center Dwayne Jones to the Toronto Raptors. Turkoglu was visibly upset at the Toronto Raptors organization when he was a healthy scratch for a game. Hedo opted to sign with the Raptors for 5 years, 53 million in 2009 after he at first initially told the Portland Trail Blazers he would join them. Hedo Turkoglo’s stay in Toronto lasted only a year. Turkoglu has 4 years left on his contract and is set to make 9.8 million this year.

In the 2nd deal Josh Childress is being traded to the Suns from Atlanta for a 2012 2nd round draft pick. Childress after playing his first 4 years in Atlanta has been playing basketball in Greece for the last 2 years. Josh Childress was the 6th overall pick in 2004 and showed promise for the Atlanta Hawks before going to Greece. Childress has agreed to sign with the Phoenix Suns for 5 years, 34 million.

I was really surprised and happy to see this yesterday as a Raps fan! Anyways…The Suns are going to have quite a different look next year but it is not going to be a good one. I don’t see how Turkoglu can do well in Phoenix with Nash handling the ball all the time. Giving these big contracts to these players is not the way to go IMO. I think it would be best for the Suns to start rebuilding which obviously isn’t going to happen. Warrick cannot replace Stoudemire, Frye has pretty much hit his peak, and Childress was not too successful in Greece. Hey also, could you check out my most recent post on the Phoenix Suns cuz I really want to hear your opinion on my thoughts. http://chrisross91.wordpress.com/2010/07/12/end-of-an-era/
