———————————————————————————

UFC 134 Prediction Results: I was 191-138-3 coming in, and I did pretty good despite my continued main card woes. The main card was really exciting with 4/5 fights being stopped due to TKO. It was almost a complete Brazilian sweep as well except Nedkov who opened the card spoiled that. Anderson Silva was amazing as always. Every fight, he appears less human, and unbeatable. It was a solid night and card for damn sure. Overall, I went 9-3 and I’ve now hit 200 correct picks. I am now 200-141-3… my winning percentage rose back up to 59%

Bonus awards: (Fighters were awarded $100,000 bonuses.)

Fight of the Night: Edson Barboza vs Ross Pearson

UFC 134: What’s at stake for the Main Card fighters, win or lose?

Posted by KDog13 on August 27, 2011

Basically I’m giving my thoughts on what’s next for the fighters on the Main Card win or lose. This is just purely my opinion, enjoy.

Anderson Silva vs Yushin Okami

Anderson Silva

Wins: If Anderson Silva gets by Okami, he will face off against the winner of Chael Sonnen vs Brian Stann.

Loses: If Anderson Silva falls victim to Okami, I could see a rematch possibly. I also could see a fight with Vitor Belfort in a number one contenders match. That is of course after the winner of Sonnen vs Stann gets their crack at it.

Yushin Okami

Wins: If Yushin Okami stuns Anderson Silva, I could see a rematch. Of course also the obvious possibility of the winner of Sonnen vs Stann.

Loses: If Yushin Okami loses I could see him fight Vitor Belfort to be the next number one contender. Either that or against the loser of Sonnen vs Stann.

Forrest Griffin vs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

Forrest Griffin

Wins: If Forrest Griffin can beat Rua again, he’s back in the mix. Another win could jump him into title contention. I think he gets the loser of Jones vs Rampage. A rematch against Rampage would intrigue me very much.

Loses: I think without a doubt a 3rd and final match against Tito Ortiz. Both have wins over each other, both by split decision. This would be final match to the trilogy.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

Wins: If Shogun can put away Griffin, he puts himself one more fight from fighting for the title again in my opinion. Some possible match-ups include the winner of Machida vs Davis or loser of Jones vs Rampage. Of course a fight against Machida would be their 3rd one. Jones and Rampage would also be a rematch. It just seems like any other opponent would be to far out of his ranking.

Loses: If Shogun loses to Griffin for the 2nd time it would be a stunner. Considering no one has ever beaten Shogun twice, let alone in 2 meetings. If Shogun does in fact lose, I expect his to take some time off. When he comes back, maybe the loser of Davis vs Machida would work. I’d like to see him fight Thiago Silva when Silva returns from his one year suspension that is. That has fireworks written all over it. Another possibility is maybe Alexander Gustafsson.

Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Brendan Schaub

 Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira

Wins: If Nogueira can get past the fast rising prospect, it will be very impressive considering he hasn’t fought in some time. I could see multiple opponents such as Shane Carwin, Alistair Overeem, or a rematch against Frank Mir.

Loses: If Nogueira falls to Schaub it would definitely spark retirement talk. I think that won’t happen though. With that said maybe a fight with Rothwell if he can beat Hunt. I could also see maybe the winner of Herman vs Russow as a possible matchup. Another match-up could also be Dan Henderson. It would set up a 3rd and final trilogy between these two.

Brendan Schaub

Wins: He says he should get a title shot if he wins but he is wrong there. A couple of suitors include Frank Mir, Shane Carwin, and Brock Lesnar (whom he said he’d like to fight).

Loses: If Schaub loses, it will only be a small fall for him. Schaub is a young kid with tons of potential. A fight against Ben Rothwell or Roy Nelson is intriguing. That’s if those two can beat there opponents respectively. Another fight possibility is the winner of Meathead vs Kongo.

Luiz Cane vs. Stanislav Nedkov

Luiz Cane

Wins: If Luiz Cane can spoil the debut of Nedkov, I can see a potential fight against Alexander Gustafsson. The way both fighters fight just makes it an exciting match-up.

Loses: If Luiz Cane loses to the newcomer Nedkov, I can see a fight against Karlos Vemola. Vemola would be a could bounce back fight for any fighter who wants to stand and bang.

Stanislav Nedkov

Wins: A win would be huge for Nedkov considering it’s his UFC debut and he’s fighting a no joke fighter in Luiz Cane. If Nedkov wins I could see fight against Vladimir Matyushenko. I actually think that would be an exciting fight considering both’s style. Another possibility could be Krzysztof Soszynski.

Loses: If Nedkov loses he could be cut but I hope not. A potential match-up could be against Igor Pokrajac. Another possible fight but a long shot at best could be against Seth Petruzelli if the UFC re-signs him of course.

Edson Barboza vs. Ross Pearson

Edson Barboza

Wins: A win for Barboza would be huge. The hype and expectations on this kid are building by the fight. A win, and you can expect to see him get a step up in competition. Some potential suitors that Barboza could face are Kamal Shalorus, Jacob Volkmann, George Sotiropoulos and Nik Lentz. Another possibility could be the winner of Nate Diaz vs Takanori Gomi.

Loses: If Barboza suffers his first career defeat, you can expect the UFC to go easy on the kid and build him up again. A fight against a newcomer, Danny Castillo or T.J O’Brien could be expected. A little tougher but Mark Bocek could be a nice bounce back fight considering Bocek has a decent name.

Ross Pearson

Wins: A win over Barboza would be huge for Pearson. It would definitely be his biggest win of career. With that said potential match-ups for Pearson if he wins could be Kamal Shalorus, or a Dennis Siver rematch pending he beats Sam Stout.

Loses: If Pearson loses I could see him fight some fairly new fighters in John Makdessi, Tony Fergusson, Michael Johnson, etc…

UFC Matchmaking: Welterweights

Posted by KDog13 on August 20, 2011

*The number indicates what I have ranked them of the top 25 in their division, NR means Not Ranked*

Jon Fitch #2 vs Johny Hendricks #NR

Fitch has been cleared for full contact after recovering from shoulder surgery the last 3 months. It has been rumored that Fitch wants to and probably will be competing on the UFC 139 card. It has also been rumored that Johny Hendricks would be the opponent. Stylistically I like this fight. Both guys tend to use there wrestling, so it could prompt us to see more of there stand up then usual. Hendricks is 6-1 in the UFC and is ready for a step up in competition. I’m not sure if this is the right step up in competition but it’s ultimately what the UFC says.

Brian Ebersole #22 vs Mike Swick #NR

Brian Ebersole can be summed up in a sentence as the guy who rocks a hairow and attempts kart wheel kicks. Besides that in his time in the UFC he has proved to be a tough competitor in the welterweight division. Ebersole has said that he would rather face off against the veterans of the sport like Matt Serra. Unfortunately, Serra is bloated at the moment and a return isn’t imminent. With that said, how about a veteran in Mike Swick? Of course, a Swick fight would require some extra time due to Swick recovering from knee surgery. Swick is 9-3 in the UFC, and has lost his last 2 fights. He is a veteran of the sport, and still is a decent “named” fighter. He almost got to fight GSP but couldn’t beat Dan Hardy in a title eliminator. Since that loss, the woes continued. If Swick is healthy after this surgery this would be an intriguing fight.

Paulo Thiago #15 vs Rory MacDonald #21

Paulo Thiago faces off against David Mitchell at UFC 134. I fully expect him to win, and I don’t know how this match was made. Anyways with that said, after he wins I’m assuming, how about a fight with a rising superstar? Rory MacDonald has looked amazing in his time in the UFC. If not for the last second defeat to Carlos Condit, he would have been the split decision victor. Since the lost he has put together a 2 fight win streak and hasn’t looked backed. Thiago was once that rising prospect, and started out with a bang, knocking out Koscheck. Since then he is 2-3, losing 2 in a row. A fight like this can get his name back out there. As for Rory, a win over Thiago would further more build up the hype.

Dong Hyun Kim #19 vs Mike Pyle #23

Dong Hyun Kim was almost very near being talked about as a possibility for number one contender. Those talks stopped when Carlos Condit put him to sleep, as well as suffering his first career loss. He needs to get back in there, and start building his resume over. A good start would be against a crafty veteran in Pyle. Pyle is known for bullying some of the younger fighters in the UFC. At UFC 133, the younger fighter Rory bullied him and snapped a 3 fight win streak in the process. With both fighters streaks halted by young guns, I’d like to see this veteran battle.

Claude Patrick #NR vs Matt Brown #NR

Patrick is 3-0 in the UFC, and is underrated in my opinion. He hasn’t exactly faced off against top competition but in his three fights so far, he has looked good. His recent fight was against Daniel Roberts, where he absolutely dominated “ninja” for 3 rounds. Brown on the other hand most recently beat John Howard in a pretty good fight. Brown was more than likely fighting for his job after he had dropped 3 straight before it. Although his record stands at 12-10, make no mistake he is a pretty good fighter and always brings it. This would be a good fight, maybe for UFC 137?

Duane Ludwig #NR vs Yoshihiro Akiyama (#17 in the middleweight division)

This would be a fun fight to see. It would be a stand and bang affair with someone getting knocked out. Either that or a 3 round fight of the night. It would be interesting to see how Akiyama fights at welterweight, also with the thought of being cut in his mind. Ahh nevermind, his style will always be to take some punishment and deliver some back. Ludwig would be an awesome opponent for his style. I’m getting amped even thinking about it.

Dan Hardy #NR vs Brian Foster #NR

Hardy’s next fight will be for his job I fully expect. With that in mind, how about a fight against a fighter that has never gone to a decision in his career. That’s right, how about against Brian Foster. 20 fights, no decisions. Either he KO’s or submits you or you KO or submit him. This would be an awesome fight, especially for Dan Hardy who has had the knack for decision fights lately.

Dennis Hallman #NR vs Carlos Eduardo Rocha #NR

The battle of the submission artist! Who will submit who?

Sean Pierson #NR vs Amir Sadollah #NR

Sadly for Pierson he went from fighting Foster to then instead fighting Ellenberger. We all know how that went for “Pimp Daddy”. Sadollah just can’t win 3 fights in a row. Just when you think he will rise in the ranking, he falls back down. Both these guys need wins, so i’d be interested to see who wants it more.

Mike Pierce #NR vs Rich Attonito #NR

2 wrestlers, around the same rankings. Let one rise, and one fall. I must add though, I don’t understand the Pierce hype, he’s never actually beaten anyone special. Anyways a win over Attonito would be a good start of building a resume over.

VSVS

James Wilks #NR vs winner of Erick Silva #NR vs Luis Ramos #NR

The absolute bottom of the welterweight division, nuff said.

*Left out Matt Serra, although I recently seen a article he’s gonna start shedding pounds. I think it will take awhile, he looked pretty big*

UFC Versus on 5 Prediction Results: I was 186-131-3 coming in, and the first time in awhile I did terrible. I’ve hit a recent skid of losing in the main event, which again led to my downfall. Lytle in his retirement fight was nothing but amazing. He delivered as he submitted Hardy. What a hell of a way to go out. Lytle although posting a 10-10 record in the UFC, has left a mark as one of the most exciting fighters to step in the cage ever. Another note on the day was the lightweight picture mix up cause by Benson Henderson manhandling Jim Miller. Miller a win away from being number one contender, was absolutely dominated. Henderson made Dana White’s and Joe Silva’s job a whole lot harder now. Overall, I went 5-7 and I am now 191-138-3… my winning percentage went down to 58%

Bonus awards: (Fighters were awarded $65,000 bonuses.)

Fight of the Night: Hardy vs Lytle

Submission of the Night: Chris Lytle
