The direction of the Toronto Blue Jays has been a bit of a shocker, but I’m sure the fans are enjoying every moment of the possible rise of the Jays! I wouldn’t get too crazy though if I was a fan, obviously this team is stacked, but so was the Marlins team that was a dud. Now, I’m not saying that the Marlins set a precedent of failure to MLB stacked teams because that would be false. I’m implying that the hype be delivered on the field and not on paper. Then again, I can’t help to see this team play because this team has few holes. The American League East just got really interesting as well, and the Blue Jays were that needed spice to make something taste better. Now it’s been added, and that division is going to be a battle.
On paper, this team’s depth chart looks crazy, and you can only imagine who is batting where.
Outfield; LF Melky Cabrera, CF Colby Rasmus, RF Jose Bautista, and even Rajai Davis as the fourth outfielder. That’s a grade of no lower than a B+.
Infield; C J.P Arencibia, 1B Edwin Encarnacion, 2B Emilio Bonafacio, SS Jose Reyes, 3B Brett Lawrie, and at DH Adam Lind. Also in the infield as a backup there is Maicer Izturis. That is another grade of no lower than a B+.
Starting Pitchers; R.A Dickey, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Brandon Morrow, Ricky Romero, and J.A Happ. Honestly, that is a solid group of pitchers. Granted health, the Blue Jays have the potential to be a division champ this year. I’d give this staff a B or at max a B+. If Romero can get back to being the pitcher he once was, he is a dangerous number five starter. He could be the next Chris Carpenter.
Bullpen; Casey Janssen (closer), Sergio Santos, Brad Lincoln, Darren Oliver (pending he doesn’t retire), Steve Delabar, Aaron Loup, Brett Cecil, Esmil Rogers, Jeremy Jeffress. Now, not everyone on here will be the bullpen, but I think they need to add someone else. Especially if Oliver decides to retire, that’s a big hole to fill. Oliver was great last year, and he will be depended on again this season if he comes back. Santos is a question mark, Lincoln, and Loup are good pitchers, and Janssen has definitely proved he can be a solid closer. I think the Grade of this bullpen would probably be a C+, but closer to a B if Oliver stays.

MLB: White Sox acquire Manny Ramirez from the Dodgers
With Manny Ramirez sitting on the bench for the Dodgers, It was only how long till he was wearing a new jersey. The Dodgers really didn’t need Manny Ramirez with all the acquisitions they made. The Dodgers acquired Scott Podsednik in a trade, and added Jay Gibbons. They already have Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, and Reed Johnson. Trading Manny shouldn’t affect them all too much, so this deal made sense at this time. Manny will pack his bags to go to the Chicago White Sox where he should have a fun time with Ozzie Guillen. Ramirez also adds power to the White Sox and will most likely be there Designated Hitter. The White Sox have too many starters at Outfield for Ramirez too crack an outfield spot. The Dodgers are pondering over whether to take prospect 3b Jon Gilmore and eat some of Ramirez’s contract or get cash. This will be Manny’s 4th team in his 17 seasons. Manny Ramirez is in his final year of his 2 year, $40 million. contract.

MLB: Albert Pujols becomes the 3rd youngest to reach 400-homer milestone
Albert Pujols hit his milestone 400th home run yesterday against the Washington Nationals. Pujols became the 3rd youngest to reach this milestone and is 47th on the all time home run list. The two younger players to reach this milestone were Alex Rodriguez (29 years, 316 days), and Ken Griffey Jr (30 years, 141 days). Rodriguez currently has 604 home runs, and Griffey Jr who retired in the middle of the season ended up with 630 career home runs.
Pujols is one of the most consistent ball players ever. Pujols in his 10 seasons has averaged 40 homers a season, of course this season isn’t over yet. A high of 49 homers in 2006, and a low of 32 in 2007. Pujols is only 30 years old right now and if he stays healthy. He is on track to hit over 600 home runs in his 15th season. Over 700 in his 18th season.
It is hard to say Pujols won’t stay consistent. He averages 40 homers plus a season, depending on how many he finishes up this season with but age does catch up and will slow down your swing as well as your production. So you really have to take all this into consideration when analyzing the possible next all time home run leader. A big season of 50 homers in 2011 would definitely help in the long run. Will Pujols be number one all time is really depending on how many seasons Alex Rodriguez plays because he has a good shot at breaking the record and some if he does in fact stay healthy.
Pujols current career stats are: .333 average, 401 home runs, and 1,206.
