MLB: Red Sox land catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the Rangers
The Boston Red Sox acquired the backup catcher they have been looking for in Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The Texas Rangers traded C Jarrod Saltalamacchio to the Red Sox for 1B Chris McGuiness, P Roman Mendez, cash, and a player to be named later. With health concerns at catcher the Red Sox went out an added one. The Red Sox were interested in Chris Snyder until he was traded to the Pirates.

MLB: Giants bolster bullpen by adding relief pitchers Javier Lopez, and Ramon Ramirez
The San Francisco Giants added to there bullpen to make a run at the NL West division being behind only 2 games. In the first deal the Giants acquired lefty reliever Javier Lopez from the Pirates for P Joe Martinez, and OF John Bowker. In the second deal the Giants acquired righty reliever Ramon Ramirez from the Red Sox for P Daniel Turpen. The Giants added to there bullpen in now what looks like a solid staff.

MLB: Marlins acquire Will Ohman from the Orioles
The Marlins acquired lefty relief pitcher Will Ohman from the Baltimore Orioles for P Rick VandenHurk. Will Ohman is having an good season for the Orioles. Ohman has a 3.30 ERA, 15 Holds, and 29 K’s. the Marlins are currently 7 games back from the Atlanta Braves who are the division leaders.

MLB: Yankees acquire Kerry Wood, maybe to be new setup man
The Cleveland Indians trade P Kerry Wood to the New York Yankees for a player to be named later and cash. Kerry Wood who is just coming off the DL hasn’t faired well this season. His ERA is 6.30 in 20 innings of work. The Yankees are hoping Wood returns to his old form and becomes there setup man. The Yankees are in need of a setup man because Joba Chamberlain hasn’t been consistent in the role. Which makes Kerry Wood a possibility as the new setup man.

MLB: Pirates acquire catcher Chris Snyder from the D’Backs
The Pirates acquired C Chris Snyder, SS Pedro Ciriaco, and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks for SS Bobby Crosby, OF Ryan Church, and P D.J. Carrasco. The Pittsburgh Pirates will have to move once starting catcher Ryan Doumit once he comes off the DL to the outfield. Chris Snyder will be the Pirates starting catcher. The Diamondbacks acquired some cheap contracts in the once AL Rookie of the Year in SS Bobby Crosby who will be backup for SS Stephen Drew and 2B Kelly Johnson. Also OF Ryan Church who will be backup for all the outfielders, and P D.J. Carrasco who is coming in with a 3.88 ERA which makes him the 2nd best reliever instantly on the D’Backs.

MLB: Cardinals get Westbrook, Padres get Ludwick, Indians get Kluber in a 3 way trade
The Cardinals, Padres, and Indians completed a 3 way trade in which the Cardinals acquire P Jake Westbrook from the Indians, and Padres P Nick Greenwood, the Padres acquire OF Ryan Ludwick from the Cardinals, and the Indians acquire P Corey Kluber from the Padres. The Cardinals a much need 4th starter in Jake Westbrook, acquire minor leaguer Nick Greenwood and trade OF Ryan Ludwick who will be replaced everyday by the up and coming OF John Jay. Westbrook is 6-7, with a 4.65 ERA, and 73 K’s. The Padres acquire OF Ryan Ludwick who should fit right into the everyday starting lineup as a RBI machine. Ludwick is batting .281, with 11 homers, and 43 RBI’s. The Indians acquire P Corey Kluber who is currently in AA. Kluber is 6-6, with a 3.45 ERA and 136 K’s.

MLB: Dodgers land Ted Lilly and Ryan Theriot from the Cubs
The Dodgers acquired P Ted Lilly and 2B/SS Ryan Theriot from the Chicago Cubs for 2B/3B Blake Dewitt, P Brett Wallach and P Kyle Smit. The Dodgers acquired one of the most sought left handers at the trade deadline in P Ted Lilly. Ted Lilly is a good pitcher and will fit nicely as the Dodgers 4th or 5th pitcher. Don’t let his 3-8 record fool you, his ERA is 3.69 and a WHIP of 1.14. Ryan Theriot will be an instant fit for the regular second baseman Blake Dewitt who was dealt to the Cubs.
The Dodgers also bulked up the bullpen by adding the Pittsburgh Pirates closer Octavio Dotel and cash for P James McDonald, and OF Andrew Lambo. Dotel is coming to the Dodgers with a 4.28 ERA, 21 Saves, and 48 Strikeouts.

MLB: Rays acquire Chad Qualls from the Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks unload yet another player. They trade P Chad Qualls to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later. This move is unusual in which Chad Qualls has a 8.29 ERA, but we will see how Qualls does in the American League. He will have to go against the Yankees, Red Sox, and many other tough AL teams.
